Firefighter Dies From Injuries Received At Brooklyn Blaze

A New York City Fire Department lieutenant died after battling a three-alarm fire in a commercial building in Bushwick, Brooklyn that injured at least five other firefighters.
FDNY officials say the fire broke out around 1 p.m. on the second floor of a commercial building located at 930 Flushing Avenue and was contained around 3:50 p.m.

Lieutenant Richard Nappi, 47, a Bronx-born, 17-year veteran of the fire department, lead Engine Company 237 to the site. He became overheated, collapsed from exhaustion and was brought to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Of the five injured firefighters, one is said to be in serious condition and the others received minor injuries.

Fire officials say cardboard and debris were feeding the flames.

The cause of the fire is still not known.

Thanks to all the Philly Brothers who showed up in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY for Rich Nappi's funeral.  I was able to briefly thank the brothers and sister from Local 22 that I saw in the parking lot after the funeral.

Thanks again!

I was proud to be there to represent our department.  Your band sounded and looked superb and everybody treated us like family.
