Just read in FAJ that there was an order for 20 rearmounts from Ferrara. Is this the beginning of the end for Seagrave?

Tilly,

Ferrara has been working to get more FDNY contracts for a few years, since 2001.  Guess they just under bid Seagrave on the spec, but still a very tough spec that is put out by FDNY.  Not sure anyone will compete with Seagrave for the Tower Ladder bids though.

I read, I believe on another forum, that Seagrave was the low bidder but did not want all of the "conditions" that went with the contract (i.e. covering the truck bumper to bumper etc.).

As for the Tower Ladders, FDNY sent the first of the new Towers back because of some of the set-ups and it did not seem like Seagrave was willing to make the changes that they wanted. I believe that order is on hold...

Don't hold me to this, but I have been told second and third hand that the disagreement is in the electrical system.  My understanding is that FDNY wants a hybrid of hardwiring and multiplexing.  Seagrave believes that such an arrangement will lead to inevitable problems down the road and refuses to do it.  They will do either all multiplexing or all hardwiring.

The truck(s) Seagrave built were done their way (don't know if it was all multiplexed or all hardwired) and FDNY refused to accept it (them).

I understand that Seagrave has it (them) for sale as demos.

Anyone with more authoritative info, please chime in.

If the rearmounts turn out to be like the engines (54,258, and 26), then they'll be GARBAGE!!!   I used to be assigned to 54 and drove that rig all the time.  It was out of service more than it was in service.

I would think that if he was assigned to that Engine, he would know it was not a seagrave. Roll Eyes

Negative. 54, 26 & 258 were purchased. They are 3-stage high pressure pumpers.

They were. I am pretty sure that either the Spartan/Luverne or a Ferrara was donated to a department in Louisiana that lost everything during the hurricane. I think the ALF pumper has been designated a caisson.

The ALF is on Govenors Island to provide fire protection out there. The original Ferrara Pumper was donated to New Orleans after Katrina. And the Spartan/Luvurn has been turned into the dedicated Funeral Caisson.
